Vintage 20th Century Italian onyx stone box. Mounted with a brass hinge and matching rim, the piece highlights the natural banding and warm tonal variation typical of Italian onyx, ranging from honey and cream to deeper amber hues.
Italian onyx, a banded calcite stone traditionally quarried in regions such as Tuscany, has long been favoured for decorative objects due to its smooth polish and subtle translucency. When cut and finished, it reveals layered patterns formed over thousands of years, giving each example a distinct character.
