Vintage 20th Century Italian set of three graduated brass rimmed bamboo and pencil reed baskets, attributable to Gabriella Crespi. Each basket is of cylinder form and made from arranged horizontal reeds secured by slender vertical bamboo bindings. Brass collars provide a contrast to the woven surface in a classic Italian modern styling. The combination of bamboo, rattan like pencil reed and polished metal is strongly evocative of the luxurious organic modernism associated with Gabriella Crespi, whose celebrated designs of the period frequently juxtaposed natural materials with brass. The baskets are graduated in size and work beautifully together as decorative storage, planters with appropriate liners, or sculptural accessories in a living room, library or bedroom. Their rich honey colored surface and aged brass have developed an attractive patina consistent with their vintage character.
