Vintage 20th Century Alfred Dunhill table lighter. Of a rectangular body shape clad in richly figured dark green serpentine, surmounted by Dunhill’s distinctive lighter mechanism in a gold plated finish. The deep green stone has attractive natural mottling and veining, contrasting particularly well with the warm gold toned mounts. Dating from the 1950s, this example belongs to an especially interesting period in Dunhill’s history, when the company combined its celebrated lighter engineering with increasingly luxurious and decorative materials. Stone, leather, precious and plated metals, lacquer and other unusual finishes were employed to turn an everyday object into a gentleman’s desk accessory. Stamped "Dunhill" to the top gold plated fitting, the base is stamped "Dunhill", "MADE IN ENGLAND".
