Vintage 20th Century Italian set of three vintage Italian low baskets dating to the 1970s, finely constructed from coiled bamboo and finished with substantial brass rims and loop handles. Each basket has a broad, shallow circular form, with tightly wound bamboo creating an attractive concentric pattern across the base and gently rising sides. Wide brass bands frame the rims paired rounded brass handles. The subtle variations in scale and tone give the group a particularly appealing collected quality. The natural bamboo has mellowed beautifully with age, contrasting with the warm, richly patinated brass to create an organic character associated with Italian interiors of the period. Their combination of bamboo and brass strongly recalls the natural material aesthetic of Gabriella Crespi, whose work of the 1970s celebrated the dialogue between metalwork and organic materials. Together they work beautifully as decorative storage, tabletop or floor baskets, cachepots with suitable liners, or simply as sculptural accessories
