Made in 1940 by Alphonse La Paglia, these elegant silver, Candelabra are part of a collection Spring Glory, the graceful swirls depict a stylised Tulip bud known as the fleur danoise, or Danish flower, influenced by his time studying in Denmark.
Alphonse La Paglia was born in Sicily in 1907, he studied silversmithing in Denmark, with Georg Jensen. By the early 1940's he had arrived in New York and was creating jewellery and silverware for Fredrick Lunning (soon to become Georg Jensen USA Inc) 1952 and La Paglia is well established as a modernist designer of jewellery. In this year he and Kurt Eric Christofferson formed The International Sterling Crafts Associates. Unfortunately in 1953 La Paglia died , leaving his designs in the hands of International.
