William Comyns Tortoise Shell Desk Set

A beautiful five piece English Desk Set, by William Comyns, translucent Tortoise Shell decorated with silver in a "reed and ribbon" design. From 1909, this monogramed, Edwardian writing set comprises of a document box, lined with red moire silk, a cut glass ink well, on a tray, a page turner and a small oval tray.

William Comyns, first opened a silver shop in Percy Mews, Rathbone Place, London in 1859, a few years later he moved to 16, Silver Street, Golden Square, Soho the epicentre of the London Silver Trade. At the turn of the new Century, Beak Street, just off Regent Street became Comyns' retail store.
