This large 1890's, Globe is painted black, for educational purposes, with just the outline of Continents and Countries, highlighted in red. Made by The Brussels National Institute of Geography, in solid blocks of wood and suspended in a cast iron cradle and stand, with a turning wheel at the top, all of which is original.
The Brussels Institute of Geography was founded in 1882 by former publisher Theodore Falk-Fabian. He sold Globes in various sizes, languages and materials. Unfortunately Fabian became ill and the business closed in 1899, a year later sadly Fabian died.
